Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Melbourne - AUSTRALIA. We trust that your browsing of the website

Holy Lent is coming closer. We have to humble ourselves before the LORD. Let us remember the call of
Jesus "The time is at hand, REPENT and believe in the Gospel." (St.Mark 1:15).God gives grace to the humble
and contrite hearts. We have to turn away from our sinful nature and attitudes to divine and Christ-like
manners and attitudes. It is a great challenge for us. But with the help of the Holy Spirit we can overcome
all satanic and evil natures within us. Let us devote our time for meditating the words of God, more
prayer and fasting. God bless!!!
"September 1 to 8 is considered a very important time in the life of the Church. September eight is commemorated as the birthday of holy Virgin Mary. The faithful all over the world spend the week September 1 to 8 in fasting and prayer and reaffirming their faith in the intercession of St. Mary. Many of us may have experiences that may have influenced our faith in the intercession of St. Mary."
"It is an appropriate time for all of us to look in to the birth, life and death of holy Virgin Mary and learn what her place in the life of the Church and in the life of a true Christian should be. Church tradition holds that the parents of Virgin Mary were Yuyachim and Hanna. Yuyachim was a descendant of King David and Hanna belonged to the priestly family of Aaron, the brother of Moses. "
"Holy Virgin Mary gave birth to the Son of God, our saviour Jesus Christ. During the public life of Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary is only mentioned three times in the Gospel. It is reasonable to understand why this should be. The entire attention of the Evangelists is upon Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and upon His mission. For e.g. when the Sun appears on the sky, even the brightest of the stars becomes invisible. "
"After the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary shared with others the joy of her Son triumph over death. St. Mary associated the rest of her life with the apostles. When God selected Mary to be the mother of His Son, he raised her from among all human being to a height which no human being, and no saint, ever attained. The Syrian Orthodox Church calls St. Mary yoldath aloho, ‘Bearer of God’, because she gave birth to Jesus Christ, God truly incarnate and she became Mother of God."
"The New Testament gives us three very important things about holy Virgin Mary."

"2. St. Mary is the Mother of God"
"3. We are to honour Mary and call her blessed."
"Holy Virgin Mary has set the example for all Christians to follow. Let us seek and pray for St. Mary’s intercession on our behalf and in our lives. Let us all submit ourselves like St. Mary to the will of God.
